“Flow-dependent Endothelial Cell (Dys)Function”
The demonstration that mechanical forces, generated by the flow of blood, can act as local risk factors for cardiovascular disease has created unique opportunities to gain new insights into disease pathogenesis. I will describe how our work in this area has resulted in the development of new experimental tools leading to the identification of mechano-activated regulatory nodes for endothelial cell (dys)function and will highlight how we are exploiting this new biology with the goal of restoring normal endothelial function through phenotypic reprogramming.
